Post-partum Doulas AND
Newborn Care Specialists

Newborn Care Specialists:
Our experience in placing post-partum doulas and newborn care specialists has shown that the two roles are, in actuality, very similar. If there’s a difference it might be that post-partum doulas are slightly more mother/parent focused while simultaneously caring for the new infant while newborn care specialists are generally more infant focused.

The word "doula" comes from the ancient Greek meaning "a woman who serves" and is now used to refer to a trained and experienced professional who provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to the mother before, during, and just after birth; or who provides emotional and practical support during the postpartum period.

Studies have shown that when doulas attend birth, labors are shorter with fewer complications, babies are healthier and they breastfeed more easily. Source: DONA International

Our New-born Care specialists are all certified, trained, and highly experienced in all things related to newborn infants - from modern safety measures and general infant care to the introduction of sleep schedules and helpful routines. Newborn care specialists will partner with new parents as they rest and recover from childbirth and grow confident in the intricacies of infant care.

Doulas:
South Bay Nannies has long-standing relationships with top doulas and newborn care specialists who share our “family first” approach to interacting with our clients. We only work with a select group of women who are intuitive and professional and who provide parents with much-needed rest, education, and encouragement to the point of independence where families are ready to go it alone or enlist the services of a professional nanny.

South Bay Nannies work with parents to introduce newborn care specialists and doulas who will block off future dates to ensure their availability when the baby arrives.

Breastfeeding support:
Challenges with breastfeeding can be a huge stressor for new parents. South Bay Nannies maintain partnerships with lactation specialists who can provide much-needed education and insight.
